Fatal Factions: May 2024 Updates

Hello, and welcome to this month's update! It has been a very busy month as I have been doing some more judging and playtesting for the Homemade TCG group on Discord, but Fatal Factions still continues on! Let's talk about a few of the updates.

First and most importantly, Fatal Factions: Evolution is here!

I had shared a small spiel about it last month, but to reiterate: Evolution is is a more action-oriented game where you select a Fighter and perform actions while you dart around on a board. Items populate all over the place and give you a few more actions to keep your opponent on your toes. The game really speaks for itself - Feel free to check out the game as a mod in Tabletop Simulator!

Since Evolution had been completed late last month, I had actually begun work on another project called Fatal Factions: Journeys. The primary goal for this game was to be a well-programmed game in Tabletop Simulator that allowed you to play 4 different heroes in a party that would go into dungeons and gather loot while you built up your home village. Unfortunately, TTS is not able to sustain all of the code needed. Even if TTS was better with larger chunks of code, the amount of work it would take to bring all of the classes to life in Journeys would have taken years. Even though the Journeys project took up a huge amount of my time the past 2 months, I ended up stopping the project to stop stressing myself out for a project not many people want or need. It was my own passion project, but it ended up being more coding than developing and that wasn't what I wanted to do. Either way, the very first dungeon and the adventurer/monster setup and battle automation were completed for the first 4 heroes and the first few monsters. In an attempt to continue to assist other developers, the mod is available for anyone attempting to do some form of card and number automation using Lua in Tabletop Simulator.

After indefinitely putting Journeys to the side and completing Evolution, I had decided to just give love to the game that really birthed it all - Fatal Factions: Guild Wars. While I'm not helping others create their games or judging for the Game Jam contest, I am continuing the promise (maybe more to myself and those that continue to play) to balance and power up each card to feel impactful and unique. The original 8 guilds had gone through this already, so next up was good old Ragefist. Already, 24 of the 60 cards under Ragefist have been updated and are now live. Gora's Shield is also going through their updates as well, and I'll be glad to share those during our next update!

In the following months, I will be updating this blog with more in-depth decisions concerning Guild Wars' balancing updates. We'll dig into what changes were made to mechanics overall, and give some love to the Legendaries and see how they changed to become much more solid and impactful.

As always, thank you for your support. You can always follow the Fatal Factions discord here. Thanks for following!
